Use Your Facebook Profile Pic

I have noticed an interesting trend in Facebook fan page profile pics, the longer the better. It makes sense though as although there is a fixed width of 200px you can have a maximum height of 600px. So why not use it. This expanded area can be used to display additional information, current promotions or just to make an impact.

The trick with doing this is to make sure your thumbnail works well. You could have the page title, brand logo or text on the image that will feature as the thumbnail image. It's important to make sure whatever image you create works well as a thumbnail as this it more likely the image that other people will see in news feeds. You can edit your thumbnail by:
  1. Select 'Edit your picture' by rolling over your profile pic.
  2. Select 'Edit Thumbnail'
  3. You can now drag your image around the box (N.B. you cannot scale the image so make sure your title fits in proportion to the thumbnail size. This may take a few times to get right
  4. That's it!
Here is some great examples:

Coca Cola do some excellent stuff on Facebook but what better image to use than the classic glass Coke bottle

The image used here is what will be the cover image (i hope). The addition of the URL helps connect the Facebook page with their site....very important with these campaigns

Like Coke, simple, classic

Good use of space to show their album cover...it's a good album too!
